The Peregrinaciones or Processions are celebrated during the first 12 days of December.
Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ was given the name “La Virgen de Guadalupe”, or The Virgen of Guadalupe” in Mexico by church authorities almost 500 years ago.
In Puerto Vallarta, the Peregrinaciones start primarily at Calle 31 de Octubre and lead down Calle Juarez to the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, located across from city hall.
Peregrinaciones In December
To many people of Mexico, ‘La Virgen” is a sign of faith and hope and on December 12th, HER day, “Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe”, thousands of people walk in procession to the church to search for help or thank her for prayers answered.
Throughout the twelve days of Christmas processions of many hotels, restaurants and other companies have their employees and their families dress up in traditional Mexican garb and walk to the church, singing Christmas carols, while holding candles, baskets of fruit and vegetables and other items to offer to La Virgen.
There are Mariachi groups also who make the procession, playing their wonderful instruments and singing along the way.
Nightly throughout the 12 days of Peregrinaciones and all day on December 12th, there are many “puestos” or stands, selling tamales, sodas, tacos, fruit, churros, ejote, pozole and t-shirts of La Virgen and all things Christmas for you to enjoy.
If you are in Puerto Vallarta during this time, it is one of the best experiences to be had, especially on December 12th.
Feliz Navidad!

House Hunters International hadn’t filmed any episodes in Puerto Vallarta until last year when they contacted Timothy Real Estate Group about auditioning for the show. Our first episode aired March of 2012 and on June 6th 2013 our second episode aired highlighting Puerto Vallarta once again and the wonderful property options that are available here. Puerto Vallarta is a very popular destination for tourism and property investments, which makes this opportunity to use House Hunters International as a vehicle to get the word out, just perfect.
The second episode was shot in November and now finally the day arrived for its airing with much anticipation so we decided to have a premiere party, which was exciting, just like getting ready to watch the Oscars or the Super Bowl! Our wonderful friends Ray and Anne Young invited us to their beautiful home in Molino de Agua to celebrate and watch the new show. Our star agent, Taniel Chemsian could be nominated for an Emmy he did so well. Valium Our buyers, David and Andrea Golombeck were incredible and very relaxed in front of the camera which let their personalities shine through.
Ray and Anne had every television in the house tuned in to HGTV but the big screen was were everyone congregated. We all cheered when we all saw the first glimpse of Puerto Vallarta looking straight down Calle Aquiles Serdan to the end of the street and seeing the beautiful beach and bay. Different shots of downtown were used including shops, galleries and the beautiful cobblestone streets.
One of the highlights of the evening was when Taniel’s mother called from Los Angeles to let him know that Puerto Vallarta looked so beautiful she wanted to move from Los Angeles to Puerto Vallarta, and soon.
We are so thankful to have the opportunity to be involved in a project like this and be able to enjoy it as an office and as a community of friends and clients. Filming starts in August for episode three. We can’t wait to see what surprises the new episode will bring.

We find these designs simple and chic and wanted to share them with you… This is definitely part of ‘Inspired Living’… and we hope that as the real estate market in Puerto Vallarta shifts so do the design elements being introduced here.
Since meeting in the mid-1980’s, artist Ruben Toledo and Ralph Pucci International’s Ralph Pucci have mingled socially and rubbed shoulders professionally, the latter relationship spawning seven mannequin collections. When the two reconnected at a party this year, an old topic resurfaced—joining forces on furniture and talk soon yielded a signed series of limited editions aptly named Collaboration.
In his Midtown studio, Toledo had his way with existing styles of Pucci tables and seating, garnishing the cerused-oak surfaces with oil paint yet leaving stainless-steel and glass components intact. Now, a landscape of enigmatic faces populates the square side table. On the bench and dining table, silhouettes chronicle fashion evolution, from Romantic and Victorian to flapper and mod. Hypnotic eyes peer out from the console, cocktail table, and chair.
While this marked the duo’s first nonfashion alliance, after so many mannequins, the lure of display proved hard to resist. So Toledo spent 10 days in the penthouse showroom, painting murals that became the back drop for a month long exhibit and a party.

Sunday is beach day in Puerto Vallarta for tourists and residents alike. Playa Los Muertos and the town beaches get quite crowded on this day, so it can be lots of fun to take off to one of the many close by beaches. Playa Mismaloya is located 20 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta and you can get there by bus, taxi or car. Take Carratera a Mismaloya south – you access the public beach on the road just to the south of the Barcelo Resort.
Playa Mismaloya is located within a small bay that is fed by the Rio Mismaloya and it is a fantastic place for swimming as there is no strong tide or undertow. You can hire a boat to go fishing or to take a trip around Los Arcos. Jet skis and parasailing are available. There are several beachfront restaurants with fish, seafood and Mexican food items and they provide beach service including tables, chairs and chaises and of course bar service so you can have all the beers or margaritas you desire.
You can take a stroll along the beach and you can also see what remains of the Night of the Iguana movie set that was filmed in this very location 49 years ago in 1963.
It is a great way to spend time with friends or family and while away an afternoon at the beach.

The first annual Vallarta Real Estate Fair took place at the Rivera Molino Plaza on Saturday, March 2nd, 2013. The successful event hosted by Timothy Real Estate Group, included over 12 local businesses and professionals offering free advice ranging from mortgages, health care providers, home owners insurance, real estate, immigration and it’s laws, interior design and more.
“I am very pleased with the turn out,” said Carl Timothy, one of the principal forces of the successful event and president of Timothy Real Estate Group. “With an ever evolving market and new rules and regulations, we thought it would be a great opportunity for foreigners, local professionals and our clients to have a chance to come out and meet face-to-face with some of the leaders in these industries and get the information they need first hand.”
It was estimated that over 150+ people turned out for the event, on a gorgeous Vallarta day. “This was sort of our trial run, to see if there would be any public interest for this sort of thing,” said the other force behind the event, Taniel Chemsian. “Often our clients asks us who to contact for information regarding interior design, a real estate attorney, insurance, immigration, you name it. The realtors kind of become the ‘directory’ for their clients. So we thought, why not bring all these professionals under one roof, for a one day event, so everyone can have the opportunity for a sit down one-on-one discussion concerning their needs. I’m happy to see that we had a big turn out.”
One visitor proclaimed, “This was wonderful. I’ve been living in Mexico on an old FM3 visa for over 4 years, and when I heard the immigration laws had changed, I was concerned as to how it would affect my foreign license plated car and my visa renewal. Irving Becerril (from Riedesser & Associates) calmly explained the new changes. It was great information that is sometimes lacking when you are surfing online. You never know what you are reading on the web is current or accurate, so to have this event and have the opportunity to come down and gather the information first hand makes a big difference.”
Some exhibitors, having done business with one another for years, got to finally meet in person for the first time. “Oscar & I enjoyed ourselves and found today to be a productive and educational day. My appreciation to all the attendees. It was good to catch up with them and to have the opportunity to meet for the first time with some of the other professionals,” said Kevin Crisp from Stewart Title Latin America.
When asked about the future of the fair, Taniel continued to say, “We are already looking forward to and planning next year’s event. We anticipate there will be more exhibitors readily available to help answer questions and perhaps a few hidden surprises for everyone.”

We laid off sugar a few years back and have been very happy about the switch to honey. Local honey in Puerto Vallarta can be purchased on the streets and we often buy from the same grumpy old man who caters to those walking up and down Basilio Badillo. When we run out of our favorite sweetener and can’t find The Honey Man, we purchase local honey, available at the produce markets.
To the surprise of many, honey is a huge export for Mexico. Crops from hives produce somewhere around 55,000 tons a year and Mexico is sixth in line of honey producing nations, shipping out at least half of their yield each year. The national consumption of honey is on the rise and we aren’t sure if this is due to sweets becoming more popular of a simple desire for the taste of honey. However we can report that foods that were once processed with abundant amounts of sugar, such as dry cereal, pastries, yoghurt, for example, are now made with honey. With nearly 50,000 registered beekeepers throughout Mexico, mostly in the southeast, there is an impressive production of both conventional and organic honey.
Bees, of course, do much more than make honey, a fact we often ignore or forget. The pollination of plants is a major industry and in a delicate ecological system, we depend on bees for our survival. The introduction of African bees, which were coaxed up from Brazil, was regarded as a major quandary in the ‘80’s. The Africanized bees were referred to as killer bees and considered too aggressive and it was thought they might destroy the native, honey producing melliponine bee. In the past few decades, the melliponine bee, which was doomed to extinction, has been reduced in population but there is evidence of both bees producing at even higher than expected rates.
Honey is used in Mexican kitchens for both sweet and savory dishes and in Puerto Vallarta, you will find several varieties. Avocado honey is the darkest in color and has a smooth, almost buttery flavor. Honey made from citrus blossoms is lighter in color and
taste. Mesquite honey is very light and often has hints of lavender, sage and thyme. There are dozens of flavors.
Mayans worshiped bees and considered beekeeping a sacred occupation. The melliponine was native to the Yucatan tropics, a stingless, honey producing bee, and was considered a link to the spirit world, gifted to the Maya by Ah Muzen Cab, the bee god. With over five hundred species, this was a busy bee world and so important to the Mayans, they devoted an entire book to them. The Madrid Codex, one of the four surviving Mayan books, is all about the bees and the business of making honey.
The bathroom is one of the most crucial areas of the house. It is where you can refresh yourself before or after work. 10 designers made use of their brilliant ideas to come up with simple but eye catching Wash Basin designs.
This is definitely part of ‘Inspired Living’… and we hope that such beautiful design elements are introduced here soon.
Wash Basins are made from different materials like : stainless steel, enamel over steel or cast iron, ceramic, marble, plastic, soapstone, concrete, terrazzo, wood, stone, copper, glass or granite. Too many right? Name it, and the manufacturers would sure be able to create one just for you. That is how they always come forth and make new designs – for client’s request or maybe due to the demand at hand. Every household would like to have their furniture or fixtures for that matter to be one of a kind and special. Specially-made wash basins usually cost a fortune, that is why users just choose whatever are at the shops. But of course that does mean unique and good looking wash basins that are affordable is not available for our dream bathrooms right?
So, speaking of bathrooms, whenever it is being discussed, it is usually the tub or the shower that comes to mind. But hey, have you imagined how your wash basin would look like? What would be the color, the shape, the material, and who may be even the designer? Have you ever thought that wash basins actually come in a variety of looks that would really entice us? Yes, they do. In fact, for today’s read, we will be showcasing a series of designs for you to take a look at and see which one you’d want to get for your dream bathroom. Below are pictures for you to choose from. Let see them one by one.

This wash basin is the stylistic evolution of the health cow. The designers thought of a design with soft corners so as the create a feel of flirtatiousness and playfulness all at the same time.

This cup like wash basin was created as tribute to a regular coffee cup with its handle serving as a towel holder.
Lavatory Wire
Image: Meneghello Paolelli Associati
This design is basically a classic wash basin, although the materials were sort of minimized with intertwining the body of the wash basin to give it elegance and a unique touch which also makes the material lighter than normal.
Lavatory Stalactite
Image: Olga Krysukova
Stalactites are popular for people who are fond of visiting caves, but for those who are not – here is one heck of a wash basin that resembles a stalactite.
The unique designs that we have presented today surely charmed us with how they would possibly go with our very own bathrooms. They look all modern, out of this world maybe, but all in all, the wash basin designs that were presented in this article impressed us and inspired us to do away with mainstream wash basin designs that are available in our local home depots.

This year’s Vallarta Real Estate Fair had a record turnout with more exhibitors and attendees enjoying the fair than ever before. The highlights of the Fair were the two seminars that were heavily attended by locals, buyers and sellers. Lic. Jessica Riedesser spoke about Sellers and Buyer’s closing costs which afterword had a very lengthy question and answer period filled with important information for getting the most out of your real estate investment. Carl Timothy presented a Real Estate Market Report that compared 2014 to 2015 markets and reported on where the market is headed for the first quarter of 2016.
The second seminar was very important and we believe the first time ever when there was a panel of a Mexican, Canadian, and US accountants together in Puerto Vallarta answering questions about international tax issues with so much knowledge and clarity. What capital gains obligations are there in the US or Canada after you sell your home in Mexico? How can people qualify for capital gains tax exemptions on their Mexican residence? Do I have to disclose my Mexican bank accounts to the Canadian or the US governments? All of this and more information was professionally explained to the attendees by Cindy DuChateau, Cameron MacIntosh, and Pedro Covarrubias.
Exhibitors this year were varied service providers for the community from Home Staging to Dental Care. Honda Motor Cars, Chefs, Property Management, Mexico Tours, Mortgages, Attorneys, Tax Planning, Investment Banking, Escrow Companies, Insurance, Pilates, Interior Design and much, much more.
Another big highlight of the event was the Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta’s wonderful performance on the plaza. These local musicians were enjoyed by everyone and brought some lovely music to the event. The talented Colectivo Prana Entertainers were also a great treat to watch again this year as they entertained on stilts, juggling, and unicycles, all with the theme of Huichol Indians dressed in beautiful Huichol designs. There were even Chamanes there to cleanse the soul.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the 2017 Vallarta Real Estate Fair. For information about the fair visit vallartarealestatefair.com.

The Puerto Vallarta Zoo is an experience completely different than going to the zoo in the United States or Canada. In my opinion a visit is a must do fun thing. The Puerto Vallarta zoo is located about thirty minutes from El Centro Vallarta by car or an easy forty five minute bus ride. Located southshore across from Hotel Barcelo. Once you arrive you can park and enjoy a walk to the front gates to begin your adventure or take a short detour and enjoy a relaxing horseback ride through the wilderness first. When you get to the front gate of the zoo you will have the opportunity to buy snacks, water, etc. for your walk through the zoo. The best part, you can buy snacks for the animals too. If you choose you can buy a large bag of veggies and openly feed giraffes, monkeys, flamingos, and much, much more. With the exception of a few animals where it would be unsafe, most animals in the Puerto Vallarta Zoo are in open cages and habitats. Some even run free around the paths of the zoo like the peacocks. Bring comfortable shoes so you can enjoy the hike throughout the entire zoo, it is quite large.
With all the animals you can imagine, not only can you feed them, you can also play with some animals. They often have baby tigers, lions, or jaguars. As babies you can hold and feed them, when they are at least a couple of months old you can play with them and at about six months you can gently pet and take photos. After about six months they will go into their habitat in the zoo and not have contact with guests. The zoo in Puerto Vallarta is a great vacation experience or a must if you live here. Enjoy!
